236 acquitted in Turkish military coup case

The Constitutional Court has acquitted 236 people pending enquiry into the Sledgehammer military case following an “infringment” decision which included retired General Cetin Dogan, retired MHP deputy Lt. Gen. Engin Alan, retired Admirals Ozden Ornek and Bilgin Balanli and retired Colonel Dursun Cicek.

The court acquitted the 236 persons due on the grounds of “the crimes comitted were not fixed to the crime”. The defendants were given a retrial after it was alleged that the digital evidence was forged and after deciding that the suspects’ rights were violated concerning “digital data and the defendants’ testimonies.”

The court case for Sledghammer was greeted by applause when the decision was handed down.
