A soldier was angry at a cat for eating his lunch so he killed it, according to court proceedings.

The former IDF soldier was sentenced by a military court to three months of community service after being found guilty of abusing cats on the base he served.

Two years ago, the soldier was convicted of killing two cats at the base after attacking the cats with a shovel. He was demoted to private and charged with a NIS 1,500 or $392 fine.

Two friends of the soldiers who allegedly helped in the murder are still on trial.

In one incident, the soldier hit the cat’s head with a shovel. In a separate incident, he buried the cat alive. The soldier and his friends claimed that the many stray cats at the base were a health hazard and interrupted the work of the soldiers at the base quite often.

Before committing the heinous act, the soldiers wrote a letter to his commander and signed a petition in an effort to eliminate the cats, however, their commander did nothing.

After telling their boss that they killed a cat, apparently, the commander said: “Well done.”
The commander, a sergeant, was taken to a disciplinary hearing and was fined.

The soldier further claimed that the cats had been eating his food. According to him, on one occasion, he brought his lunch in the bedroom and left it there for several minutes. When he returned, he found a cat eating his meal. During the trial, the soldier’s father said he had to give his son money to buy food due to contaminated food at the vase from the cats.
