2 policemen killed in Afghan car bomb

Provincial police commander General Abdul Raziq said that the bomber detonated a bomb-laden car at the gate of the police station of the city of Kandahar at around 10: 20 a.m. local time Monday.

Security officials said that three civilians and a policeman were wounded in the attack.

An investigation is underway to find those behind the attack that shattered the windows of nearby buildings, police said.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but Taliban militants are suspected.

Police and government security forces have been prime targets of the militants in the past.

The US-led invasion of Afghanistan took place in 2001. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan despite the presence of some 130,000 US-led troops there.

Thousands of civilians, including women and children, have been killed as a result of the war.
