The attack took place early on Tuesday when a group of gunmen opened fire on a police car in the Jhang district of the province.
The policemen were searching suspected criminals in the area when they came under the attack. Police officials have launched an investigation into the incident.
The assailants managed to escape the scene. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
Thousands of Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan joined an alliance with the United States in Washington’s’ so-called war against terrorism.
Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan and thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping the country.
