19 injured in eastern Pakistan bombing

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when the two bombs detonated at a crowded fruit market in a downtown area of the city, injuring 19 people, AFP reported.

“Two timed devices, one planted in the parking and the other one under a cart, exploded when people were buying fruits after breaking their fast in the evening,” said District Coordination Officer Noor Ul Amin Mengal.

All of the wounded people were taken to a local hospital for treatment, rescue officials said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but police officials put the blame on pro-Taliban groups.

Thousands of Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan joined an alliance with the United States in the so-called war against terrorism.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan and thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.
