15 killed in Nepal plane crash

“Fifteen people have been killed. Thirteen of them were Indian tourists and the other two were Nepali pilots. There are six survivors, among them one Nepali air hostess,” police spokesman Binod Singh said.

The incident occured on Monday when the Agni Air aircraft was about to land at Jomsom airport, but it hit a muddy hill near the Annapurna mountain range.

“A Nepal army barracks was near the accident site which made the rescue of survivors easier,” the police spokesman added.

The crash was the second deadly air accident for Agni Air in less than two years.

Two Danish tourists were also on board the plane, but their condition was not known.

Air crashes, involving small tourist planes are not uncommon in Nepal’s mountainous regions.

Back in September 2011, a tourist plane returning to the capital, Kathmandu, from a Mount Everest tour crashed in Nepal with 19 passengers on board.

In December 2010, another plane carrying 22 passengers crashed east of Kathmandu. All the travelers were killed in the incident.

Moreover, in August 2010, a plane heading for the Everest region crashed in bad weather killing all 14 people on board, including four Americans, a Japanese and a Briton.
