The attack took place on Wednesday after a bomber riding a motorbike attacked the joint patrol passing through the town, Afghan Interior Ministry said.
NATO confirmed there have been some casualties among foreign forces but did not mention the exact number of troops who were killed or injured.
No group yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but interior ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi blamed the “enemies of Afghanistan” for the incident.
The US-led war in Afghanistan began in 2001. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan, despite the presence of about 130,000 US-led troops.
