’12 Taliban militants slain in Afghanistan’

“Afghan police, army and NATO-led coalition forces launched nine joint cleanup operations in Kunar, Balkh, Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan, Ghazni, Khost, Farah and Helmand provinces, killing 12 Taliban militants and detaining 20 others over the past 24 hours,” the Afghan Interior Ministry said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

They also recovered weapons from the captured militants. The statement did not mention whether there were any casualties on the side of Afghan or foreign forces.

Afghan Interior Ministry said on Tuesday that the country’s security forces and US-led foreign troopers had killed 28 Taliban militants and detained 31 others during 10 cleanup operations a day earlier.

Insecurity continues to rise across Afghanistan despite the presence of some 130,000 US-led forces in the war-torn country.

The US-led war in Afghanistan, with civilian and military casualties at record highs, has become the longest military conflict in the American history.
