Private TV channel, Dunya, broadcast footage of the site where the wreckage of a car lay alongside other badly damaged vehicles, as ambulances and rescue workers raced to ferry the wounded to a hospital.
Senior police official Kalam Khan said an investigation is underway to find whether a bomber strapped with explosives was involved in the deadly incident.
Medics said that at least 10 dead bodies had been brought into Peshawar’s main Lady Reading hospital.
Last Friday, a powerful bomb explosion killed at least 31 people and left many others wounded in a market in Parachinar town, located about 290 kilometers (180 miles) west of the capital Islamabad.
Over 35,000 Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001, when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US in the so-called war on terrorism, according to local media outlets.
Since late 2009, there has been a noticeable surge in militant attacks in Pakistan.
