10 die in day of violence in Karachi

All of the killings happened on Friday.

Gunmen shot dead a trader in the Dhawaraji area for refusing to pay extortion money, Pakistan’s Online news agency reported.

Afterwards, a large number of people, including many traders, staged a demonstration to protest the killing.

Two men died during a shootout between two rival political gangs in the Dhobi Ghat area of Karachi.

Meanwhile, the Karachi police said on Friday that its officers killed two drug dealers during an encounter in the Quaidabad area and arrested several suspects during operations targeting various drug dens.

In addition, two robbers who were accosting people at the L-6 Market of the Gulshan-e-Hadeed area opened fire at the police when they arrived. The police then returned fire and the robbers were killed.

Two youths were also shot dead in the Nazimabad neighborhood by gunmen. They had been beaten badly before they were killed.

And the police also found the body of a eunuch in the Qayyumabad area. The victim had been strangled to death.

Karachi has been experiencing ethnic and sectarian violence for several years now.
